With Butler Hegarty Architects

Director Ben Powell worked on the scheme up until RIBA stage 4 whilst assistant architect at BHA - this included assisting in the extensive survey and 3D modeling of the original fabric, as well as preparing the information for the proposed restoration and development of the historic fabric.

The original medieval timber-framed hall was painstakingly surveyed and then re-built to form a new library and public community space. Low energy and traditional materials were used extensively in the construction of the scheme including earth, wattle and daub, timber framing, hempcrete, lime-plaster, and traditional brickwork.

A series of collaborative community participation workshops were held in the development of the scheme including a live earth-making workshop with local school children, and a wattle construction exercise with residents and council employees.
