CRAFTS HOUSE

Renovation and Residential Extension in South London

Location: Teddington, London
Sector: Residential Architects
Works: Extension, Renovation
Project Value: £Private
Status: Completed July 2021
Contractors: GESCo

A considered re-interpretation of early 20th-century Arts and Crafts

The crafted residential extension celebrates the unique film and cinematic history of this area in south west London, with the house transformed into the stage upon which the family’s lives will play out. Each space provides a backdrop for a different scene in which the intertwined narratives of each actor are told. Spaces flow uninterrupted from one to the other, framing views and drawing the 'viewers' attention to specific moments, playing the role of the camera in the studio.

This project is near the site of the former Teddington Studios in Richmond which began its operations in the early 20th century. The studios went through a number of management changes; acquired by Warner Brothers in the 1930s, Carlton Television in 1993, and Pinewood Studios Group in 2005.
